Boh Runga jewellery was born out of a chance opportunity for Boh to design a jewellery collection for bullion business The New Zealand Mint in 2007.

Boh bravely jumped in head first and set about creating something completely new. She visited every jewellery store she could find, and found her niche in meaningful designs based on New Zealand native birds, with each piece telling a story.

‘Birdland’ was the very first Boh Runga jewellery collection and set the tone for Boh's trademark meaningful jewellery, made for gifting. Right from the start, Boh knew she had tapped into something special.

Birdland came about from wanting a little bit of home for people to take with them everywhere. Pencil drawings of stylised, chubby native birds were faxed (yes, faxed) from Boh's then home in Silver Lake, Los Angeles back to Auckland where her Birdland was brought to life in precious metal.

Boh wanted longevity. Something for everyone; inclusivity and a sense of belonging. Jewellery that people felt held meaning for them and that would be gifted with that in mind.

From 2007 till today, the Birdland Collection continues to serve as a reminder of home, of loved ones and of how unique New Zealand is.
